HIERONYMITES MONASTERY - PORTUGAL
The monastery of the Hieronymites ( also called Jeronimos monastery) which is
standing at the entrance to Lisbon harbour – construction of which began in 1502 –
exemplifies Portuguese art at its best.The monastery was populated by monks of the Order of Saint Jerome (Hieronymites),
whose spiritual job was to give guidance to sailors and pray for the king's soul.
