BÀ ÐÁ PAGODA - VIỆT NAM


Bà Ðá Pagoda means Pagoda of the Lady in Stone - the real name is Linh Quang Tự (Sacred Light). No.3, Nhà Thờ street. Under Lê Thánh Tông (1460-1497) in Bảo Thiên village (nearby the present cathedral - Hà Nội after having unearthed the statue of a lady in stone, people had erected a small temple dedicated to her cult. In the time of French colonization, the statue was lost during a fire. There is now in the pagoda a stone statue of Sakyamuni dated back to early XXth century, two bronze bells of 1823 and 1881, a bronze resonant plate of 1842, the statues are generally of large sizes. This pagoda is considered as a place of asceticism for patriarchs of the dhyanist sect Thiền one of two Buddhist sects in North Vietnam.
