BODDHI TREE - INDIA

Bodhgaya locates 15 kms from Gaya city in Bihar (India). Prince Siddhartha after deciding to renounce the world in search of truth, actioned and arrived Urvila (ancient name of Bodhgaya), and sat beneath a Boddhi Tree (FICUS RELIGIOUSA), under vow to attain enlightenment after six years of hard meditations, the much desired dawned upon him on the full moon day and Prince Siddhartha became Bodhisattva (The enlightened one-BUDDHA). Today, at the western side of the Mahabodhi temple in Bodhgaya, stands a large and historic Pipal Tree , known throughout history as the Bodhi Tree or Bo or Peepul tree . The present Bodhi Tree still performs a very important role to Buddhists of all traditions - a symbol of peace.
